The history of the Breitling Replica Superocean goes back to the mid-1950s, when Breitling mainly produced timekeeping instruments for the aviation industry: in 1957, the Swiss watchmaker launched its first two diving watches under the name “Superocean”. The Superocean collection is now almost as influential for Breitling as the Navitimer.
Superocean: From 2011 to 2024
From 2011 to 2024, there was a wide range of Superocean models. The Superocean Automatic 46 was particularly impressive in terms of its water resistance. It could withstand a pressure of 200 bar (equivalent to 2000 meters of water depth), while the other models in this collection were water resistant up to 50 bar (500 meters).
Superocean from 2024
In 2024, Breitling presented a completely revised Superocean collection. For the first time, bronze and red gold were introduced as case materials alongside stainless steel. The titanium variants of the Superocean have not been available since 2022 and are therefore in high demand. . Breitling’s latest collection is inspired by the designs of the 1960s, in particular the Superocean Slow Motion.
Which movement is ticking in the Superocean?
Until 2024, automatic calibers based on ETA movements were generally used, which have had chronometer certification since 1999. In the current collection, however, the beat is set by the automatic Sellita caliber SW 200, which also has chronometer certification. Behind the B20 manufacture caliber is a COSC-certified chronometer based on the MT5612 from Tudor. Breitling Superoceans built before 2011 are partly equipped with quartz movements.
Breitling Superocean Héritage
In 2007, Breitling celebrated 50 years of the Superocean with a reinterpretation of the collection that brought the timeless design of the original model back to life. The Superocean Héritage combines the design of the 1950s with the latest technology and has taken the hearts of vintage enthusiasts by storm.
Similar to the original model, all watches in the Héritage series are water-resistant to a depth of 200 meters. The unidirectional rotating bezel has a reliable lock and the crown is screwed down with double gaskets. The domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial. The Breitling Superocean Héritage is available in various sizes and the collection also offers two impressive chronographs equipped with the first in-house Breitling caliber B01.
