After a start to the year marked by the anniversary of its icon, nicely celebrated with the release of the Navitimer 2024, Breitling Replica is back in action for the summer. We change collections, but we retain this desire for freshness and colors, while remembering the good old days. Focus on the all-new Superocean, a complete series inspired by a model from the ’60s.
A design inspired by Slow Motion
If there is one recipe that works in watchmaking today, it is the reissue of vintage models, and Breitling has understood this well. Here it is directly inspired by an easily recognizable model from the 1960s, adding a skillfully applied touch of modernity. This new Superocean is distinguished by its wide white minute track band, placed on a flange affixed to the perimeter of its dial. It is also inspired by another design element of Slow Motion, the look of its square lollipop second hand, but here used for the minute hand. The result is a perfect balance between optimal readability and impactful design.
16 variations including a limited edition
Breitling did not do things by halves because it is not a single new product that is being released, but rather a complete collection with a total of 16 new references. On the menu: steel, two-tone or even bronze cases, measuring 36, 42, 44 and 46mm, all offered on a rubber or steel strap at a price ranging from €4,350 to €6,400. A wide range that allows the brand to maximize its chances of satisfying the greatest number of wrists. At the heart of this complete range, we find a special edition produced in collaboration with surfer and brand ambassador, Kelly Slater. The colors used are not insignificant because they are inspired by a watch worn by Kelly’s father, with which he surfed and ended up losing in the water. This version, produced in only 1,000 pieces, has a 42mm diameter steel case, topped with a black bezel combined with an orange and white dial.
A real tool
The Superocean 2024 boasts a comfortable water resistance of 30 bars, logically associated with a screw-down crown surrounded by a crown protector. Like any self-respecting diver, it is equipped with a graduated bezel, here fitted with a ceramic insert. Note that the latter is unidirectional on most models, except the 46mm duo. Breitling has made the technical choice of a bi-directional bezel equipped with a patented security lock, making the large size model more professional. To ensure foolproof readability, the hands and indexes have a Super-Luminova coating. On the mechanical side, this watch is powered by the Breilting caliber 17, an ETA 2824-2 base reworked by the brand and deprived of its date function. The Superocean is a news that is fully in line with the renewal of Breitling, inspired by the arrival of Georges Kern at the head of the Swiss house in 2017.
